[ICTs-and-Society] statement of alternative informatics about gezi park and social media

[Seda Guerses]

dear icts members,

one of the more active digital rights groups in turkey is alternatif bilisim (alternative informatics).
they have been following up on censorship activities, challenging dpi and filtering practices, demanding a proper data protection law, and also taking a critical stance towards increased surveillance and the recent arrests of 38 twitter users in association with #occupygezi.
the text below is their statement about censorship, mass media, and social media from a couple of weeks ago, but since the events are continuing, i expect the statement to still be timely and relevant. please feel free to distribute to further networks.
